2 CONC rold for him is based on the SS-5 of Albert Swearingen, the youngest child.   I am guessing p
2 CONC ast this point.  I have found George D and Eliza with son William age 5 in Virginia in the 18
2 CONC 50 census.  I base this guess on the fact that Eliza was born in PA and George in VA.  Willia
2 CONC m list his parents as born in VA and PA.  I have not been able to find William in 1860 or 187
2 CONC 0.  In 1880 he is married, and is married and has 3 children and lives in Arkansas.
2 CONT I find George and Eliza in Iowa in the 1880 census.   I haven't found them in the 1860 or 187
2 CONC 0 census either.

2 CONT 	A few days ago I finally located my copies of some old Fields' family letters.  Most of th
2 CONC e letters are from Eliza Swearingen to my dad, Ogden.  The letters are from 1937 to 1939 an
2 CONC d 1941 to 1943.  They give a picture of friends, family, joys and tribulations, comings and g
2 CONC oings.
2 CONT 	In the late 30s my dad was going to school in New York.  He married my mom in 1940, and I wa
2 CONC s born in June of 1941.  By then Dad had started a job in Chicago.   Eliza's birthday was Jul
2 CONC y 26 (1876), mine is June 26.  My mom's mother's birthday was December 26 (1874).
2 CONT 	I wanted to pass on to you the parts where Eliza mentions her family.  In 1938 and 1939 Eliz
2 CONC a, her daughter Letty, and Eleanor were living in the Fields' house on Grove Street.  
2 CONT 	Letty's husband, George Vrachliatti, traveled on his job.  Eleanor was a friend of Letty's a
2 CONC nd became Burr's wife.  I am not sure when they married, but were married by June 1941.  Bur
2 CONC r and Eleanor had two children, Mark and Letty.  In 1943, when Burr was in the service, Elean
2 CONC or moved in with Eliza, who now had a home on Clay Street.  Eleanor, too died when she was yo
2 CONC ung.  Later Burr married Marge and had two more children.  
2 CONT 
2 CONT 	In a letter dated Febuary 28, 1938, Eliza is describing a train trip she took to Sacrament
2 CONC o with her gentleman friend, Mr. Barry.  
2 CONT 	"I saw so many sheep and lambs.  How lovely they seem to me.  It brings back when I was smal
2 CONC l and my father raised sheep, hogs and cattle."
2 CONT 
2 CONT 	In a letter dated April 12, 1938, Eliza is describing some of the hardships she had.
2 CONT 	"I started so young plodding along.  Got my 2nd grade certificate.  Taught 6 months of schoo
2 CONC l.  Went to Mo. broke.  Walked 5 mi per day to Bradleyville Normal School.  Paid for my book
2 CONC s and tuition, $ 2.50 per mo.  Helped my father and brothers Saturdays fall timber to make ra
2 CONC ils for fence.  When I wanted a few cents my father gave it to me.  When I went to Springfiel
2 CONC d to attend school, I worked and went to school also.  I got tired of working and walking an
2 CONC d went home.  Got married to you father.  Became a mother of 7 children."
2 CONT 
2 CONT 	Letty died in the spring of 1939.  Lloyd, one of the older children died in December 1938
2 CONC .  Grace had passed away in November 1935.  Eliza says that they are in the same niche.  But
2 CONC , I do not know where.  I will have to find out.
2 CONT 
2 CONT 	In a letter to my dad, the day after I was born, Eliza talks about how in 1903 she was sen
2 CONC t by Ambrose east from Washington State in April before Leo was born (July 30).  She came fir
2 CONC st to her family's home in Arkansas and then to stay with her husband's family in Missouri
2 CONC .  Leo was born in Arkansas.  It was not until October 1904, that Eliza joined Ambrose in Sa
2 CONC n Francisco.  In an earlier letter she told Ogden how Papa had written her twice a week.  But
2 CONC , it was a long, hard separation for her.
2 CONT 
2 CONT 	Burr, Leo, and Walter were all called up during the war. 
2 CONT 
2 CONT 	Now, in October 1942, the Swearingen family appears.  In a letter dated October 29, 1942, El
2 CONC iza writes (addressing my dad in the middle of the letter):
2 CONT 
2 CONT 	"Ogden my oldest brother's son - Harold Swearingen is living and working in Oakland.  =  I h
2 CONC ave not seen him as yet = He came to S.F. two weeks ago, but did not have my add  =  so he ne
2 CONC ver called on me =  Eleanor will drive me over next week = this week ends the Opera  =  The w
2 CONC eather has been lovely just like when I was in N.Y. 2 years ago."
2 CONT 	[In the 1942 letters Eliza started to use 2 little dashes between thoughts in her letters.]
2 CONT 
2 CONT 	On November 14, 1942, Eliza writes, again addressing dad in the letter:

2 CONT 	"Ogden I met my oldest brothers son last Tuesday evening.  Eleanor and I drove over to Oakla
2 CONC nd and he is working in Berkeley at some project = as a welder and burner [?] = which he is s
2 CONC killed.  He learned it several yrs. ago.  He is a fine man = very quiet.  Looks like his fath
2 CONC er: my brother William = very preserved.  His wife is coming out soon and 3 children they hav
2 CONC e.  His 2 half brothers are with him also = they are very nice = but more talkative.  When Be
2 CONC ssie arrives I will visit them quite often.  You know Ogden blood is thicker than water = i
2 CONC t has been 35 years since I saw anyone on my side of the house.  He seems so near to me looki
2 CONC ng at him = it seemed I was looking at my brother.  Will was a good brother and son to my Mot
2 CONC her.  Always ready to give us a hand one way or the other.  He has been dead 28 years."

2 CONT 	In another letter is dated "Sunday = 22."  [My Mom wrote in "1942", so it must be November o
2 CONC r December.  A look at a 1942 calendar would set the month.]  Eliza writes:

2 CONT 	"My nephews are coming over later from Oakland.  I enjoy their company.  Harold makes me fee
2 CONC l so near.  He is just like my brother Will, his father."

2 CONT 	The last letter that I have is dated January 27, 1943.  Eliza tells my dad that she is gla
2 CONC d for their move to Seattle and that she will visit.

2 CONT 	In March 1943, I believe, Eliza had a stoke.  In a March 23, 1943, letter, Eleanor tells m
2 CONC y Dad how Elizabeth is doing and that she is in a rest home
2 CONT and asking for help.  So many plans and hopes unfulfilled.

2 CONT 	When I am back in New York this next summer I will do my best to get some pictures togethe
